Privacy Policy

The short version
cvbyte runs entirely in your browser. Your resume data is stored only on your device and is never sent to, or stored on, any server. We cannot see your resumes, by design. We use Google Analytics solely to measure aggregate usage and application health (page views and error counts). Your resume content is never part of any analytics data.
Your resume data
- No accounts. There is no sign-up, so we never ask for your name, email address, or password.
- No uploads.Everything you type into the builder, from your name to your work history, stays in your browser's local storage on your device. PDF generation also happens locally.
- No selling or sharing. We have no resume data to sell or share, because it never reaches us.
Analytics (Google Analytics 4)
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand, in aggregate, how the site is used and whether the app is working correctly. Specifically, we collect:
- Standard usage data: pages visited, referring site, approximate region (derived from IP, which Google Analytics 4 does not log or store), browser and device type.
- App-health events: anonymous counters such as "a preview failed to render" or "the engine failed to start", including the template name involved, so we can find and fix bugs.
What we never collect through analytics: anything you type into your resume, exported files, or any content that could identify your documents. We do not use analytics data for advertising, and Google Ads features are disabled.
Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (such as _ga) to distinguish visitors. You can block these with your browser's settings, an ad/tracker blocker, or the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The resume builder works exactly the same either way. For details on how Google processes this data, see Google's privacy policy.
Where your resumes live
Resumes are saved automatically in your browser's built-in storage (IndexedDB) on the device you are using. This means:
- Your resumes are available only in the browser and device where you created them.
- Clearing your browser's site data permanently deletes your resumes, and we have no copy to restore. Keep your downloaded PDFs somewhere safe.
- Anyone with access to your device profile can open your resumes; protect your device as you would any personal document.
Hosting
cvbyte is served as static files from a content delivery network. Like any website, the hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP addresses of requests) for security and operations. These logs are not available to cvbyte as user data and contain none of your resume content.
Children's privacy
cvbyte does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The only data collected at all is the aggregate, non-identifying analytics described above.
Changes to this policy
If we ever change how the app handles data, we will update this page and the "last updated" date above before the change takes effect.
